A Luxury Cottage

Pristine rain forests, black sand beaches, the world's most active volcano, beautiful sunrises, and just about every vacation activity you could imagine: this is Hawaii. Rising more than 30,000-feet from the center of the Pacific Ocean, it is larger than all of the other Hawaiian islands combined. With a direct view of the ocean, you may spend your whole vacation simply gazing at the waves, though the cottage is the perfect home base for exploring the unique natural and cultural heritage of the Big Island. Hilo, located just 35-minutes away, is the orchid growing capital of the world, and is home to several magnificent botanical gardens, museums, galleries, and restaurants. Hilo hosts a wonderful farmer's market every Wednesday and Saturday with a bounty of tropical fruits and flowers. The main attraction is Volcanoes National Park, a scenic 45-minute drive, where you can witness the formation of the newest land on the planet.

All across the Big Island you'll find quaint towns with specialty shops, native crafts, and a variety of international cuisines. The closest town is relaxed Pahoa, which has grocery stores, banks, restaurants, and other conveniences. Rainbow Dreams Cottage is situated in an alternative energy area with solar power. And, without phones or T.V.'s, you really get away from it all.

Rainbow Dreams Cottage is situated on the beautiful Puna Coast of the Big Island, approximately thirty miles southeast of Hilo. Set amid a century-old grove of coconut palms, the cottage faces directly to the Pacific Ocean, where spectacular sunrises set the tone for each day. Just a few hundred yards down the road is the picturesque village of Opihikao, which consists of a Congregational Church and an emergency telephone. In other words, there is not a lot of nightlife, except for the occasional shooting star.

Along the coast in this rural region, you will discover special places to explore, from scenic parks to sheltered coves. Three miles from the cottage is exotic Kehena Beach, where palms and ironwood trees frame a lovely crescent of black sand. Two miles in the other direction is MacKenzie State Park, where steep lava cliffs form a rugged, rocky shore. MacKenzie Park also has interesting hiking trails and accessible caves for spelunking. Five miles from the cottage is Ahalanui State Park with a naturally heated salt-water swimming pond. And, a little further down the road is Kapoho Tide Pools for some of the best snorkeling on the east side of Hawaii.
