Overlooking the 1200 acre Star Lake and the Highland State Forest sits one of Wisconsin s most original log homes, the Star Lake Retreat. Located in northern Wisconsin's Vilas County just south of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, it s 10 miles north of Eagle River. The property is almost entirely surrounded by state land with an abundance of breath-taking natural beauty. There are numerous trails for hiking in the spring, summer and fall and for cross-country skiing in the winter. A great North Woods experience, the pet friendly Star Lake Retreat was constructed in 1995 of 250 year old hemlock pines felled by a tornado. Situated on a ridge, this log home has a fieldstone base and stone terraced lawns. It s truly a work of art. The three bedroom, year round vacation rental property has three levels with large windows facing the lake and woods, a balcony off the master bedroom. Beneath the balcony is a large picnic area overlooking Star Lake, with an octagonal cedar picnic table, charcoal grill and large fire pit for campfires. The home has Norwegian touches with stenciled pine floors, a huge stone fireplace and glider rockers to relax in as you enjoy views of the lake. A nearby sandy beach and boat launch provides access for guests to enjoy the pristine and peaceful lake. Living Room - Enjoy the fieldstone fireplace, black slate and wood floors with stencil painted designs, handcrafted 250 year old logs and cedar doors with leaded glass. Picture windows provide beautiful views of the lake and forest. DishNet Satellite TV, VCR, stereo cd/cassette player and radio are added conveniences. Patio area has an octagonal picnic table, Weber grill and fire pit for your campfire. Remember to keep the fires burning as the firewood is included with your rental. Kitchen/Dining Area - Island cooking area in center with ample counter space and four stools. Jenn-Air grill, gas range and oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, glassware, dishes, pots and pans, toaster and coffee-maker are all provided. Enjoy your meals in the spacious dining area surrounded by three picture windows overlooking the lake. Bedrooms - Enjoy the master bedroom with a king-size bed and a porch with outdoor furniture so you can enjoy the northern Wisconsin starry nights. There are two other bedrooms, one with two twin beds, the other with a double bed and one single bed. Bedrooms sleep a total of seven. Sheets, blankets and spreads are provided for all beds. Bathrooms - There is one on the main floor off the foyer. On the second floor, the main bathroom has two sinks, tub and shower with heat lamp, ample drawers and storage space. Lower Level A large open area on the lower level is ideal as an extra living area, children's play area, a storage place for skis and outdoor equipment, or a place for the kids to campout. This space can also be used as a workshop or conference space. No matter what time of year you choose to visit, there's no shortage of the outdoor activities for which northern Wisconsin is famous. Water Access: The Star Lake Retreat is perched on a ridge offering breathtaking views of Star Lake. There is a paved DNR boat launching facility with a large parking lot only a few minutes away. A sandy beach for swimming is a short walk from Star Lake Retreat. For those who like to fish from shore, grab your gear and take a walk down one of the nature trails to find the spot that s perfect for you. Summer and Winter Fun! Fishing, swimming beaches, boating, sailing, canoeing, water and snow tubing, biking and hundreds of miles of hiking and cross-country ski trails are all within easy reach. Downhill skiing in Michigan is about one hour away. There is shopping and dining to experience nearby. For those that enjoy golfing, the area boosts several courses. If gambling is more your pace, take a chance at some of Upper Peninsula Michigan s casinos. Directions to Star Lake Retreat Taking U.S. Highway 45 North - turn left on County Trunk G (about 1 mile north of Eagle River) to County Trunk N. Turn right on N and follow to County Trunk K, Rural Rustic Road. Taking U.S. Highway 51 North - Turn right onto County Trunk M (about 5 miles north of Woodruff). Take M to County Trunk N and turn right. Take N through Sayner and continue to County Trunk K.
