Mountain Chalet with Acres of Privacy!

Come . . . nestle in amongst thirty-five acres of meadows and hemlock groves on one of the highest ridges of the Pennsylvania Allegheny Front.

The chalet has a full kitchen adjoining a mahogany floor living room with cut stone fireplace (firewood provided). Just off the living room are the chalet s two bedrooms that sleep four people comfortably. Bunk beds are furnished in the first while the master bedroom features a luxurious queen-size bed. An extra perk is a sliding door exiting the master bedroom to an exterior deck that wraps around to the chalet front and a gorgeous dining sun-room. The wrap-around deck continues from the other side of the sun-room to the chalet s main entrance. All the rooms (except the full-size bathroom) have cathedral ceilings and solid pine paneling. Pets are permitted so long as they are house-trained and kept on leash while outside (for the pet s safety).

There s ample parking at the chalet and you won't have to worry about forgetting to lock your car. A grill is provided on the deck with free fuel. There are no streetlights at Blueberry Meadows and you'll see more deer, squirrels and other wildlife than people. We have frequent sightings of bear, fox and turkey and local trappers often catch eastern coyotes. A short ten-mile drive takes you to traffic lights and civilization featuring fine dining, entertainment and shopping. An hour s drive will get you most anywhere within the Laurel Highlands, including Altoona, Bedford, Blue Knob, Johnstown, Somerset, and Ligonier. Or you can hike 600 feet to enjoy the world of our 18th century Seneca and Delaware ancestors, where wilderness stretches from horizon to horizon and the only modern sound you hear is your own breathing.

Blueberry Meadows features groomed nature paths and shares a common border with 35,000 acres of pristine state forest and water authority lands. It s hilly, but one can look forward to days of hiking and in-season hunting. Miles of lightly traveled paved and gravel roads make for enjoyable mountain biking. Nearby are Clear Shade Creek, Cub Run, and Piney Run trout streams which are nothing less than a commune with nature. The Pennsylvania Fish Commission rates Cub Run and Piney Run as Exceptional Value Cold Water Fisheries supporting naturally reproducing Brown trout and Brook trout. Clear Shade Creek is one of the region's best trout fisheries and the only stream in the StonyCreek-Conemaugh Basin that has a Fly Fishing Only section. All three streams are regularly stocked.

ATVs, trail-bikes, snowmobiles and other forms of motor-powered vehicles are prohibited on Blueberry Meadows and Clear Shade Wild Area properties. This is an ideal retreat for couples, honeymooners, retirees or for the family that wants to escape the noise, distractions and congestion of urban life. Enjoy spring wildflowers and songbirds, summers where you'll need a blanket at night and autumns with a myriad of colorful leaves. Most importantly, you have the chance to enjoy each other.

Blueberry Meadows is located 8 miles east of Windber in Ogle Township, Somerset County, ½ mile south of PA 56. The chalet is non-smoking. Bed and bath linens as well as basic kitchen utensils, plates and cooking staples are furnished. Just bring your clothes and toiletries. There is no cell phone reception.
